Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
The implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is directing change to various categories of reporting data to NDE. A major provision of ESSA is a statewide accountability system that includes the annual requirement to identify schools with consistently underperforming subgroups for targeted support and improvement by 20190/2020. Additionally, ESSA requires a per pupil expenditure at the school building level.
New Financial Coding Structure Effective for 2018/2019 School Fiscal Year
Beginning with the 2018/2019 school fiscal years, districts and ESUs must use the new coding structure for all district/ESU financial transactions or "crosswalk" their financial data into the new coding structures. the 2018/2019 Annual Financial Report Upload System will only accept district submissions using this new coding structure.
Due to this updated and expanded financial coding system, ESU 2 will be holding a workday:
April 24, 2018 at 9:00 AM in the ESU2 Board Room
For more information on ESSA please visit the NDE website

The Nebraska Educational Service Unit Coordinating Council and its statewide network of regional service units will host KSB attorneys for a timely series of five school live casts on the Internet to sponsoring ESUs. Topics include Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, labor law, teacher evaluation, Title IX, and records. All are FREE for Nebraska schools personnel registering through their regional ESU.
KSB School Law attorneys will speak to a live audience from Educational Service Unit 2, located at 2320 N Colorado Avenue in Fremont.
Simultaneously, ESU 2 will LIVE CAST to other Nebraska Educational Service Units whose ESU Administrators register their Units as sponsoring receiving sites on a per event basis.
KSB School Law will also be a live casting receiver site. Individuals from schools, educational service units, or other education-related agencies may attend at their office located at Cornhusker Plaza, 301 S 13th Street, Suite 210 in Lincoln. Contact KSB to complete arrangements, which may involve payment given ESU Sponsor circumstances.
Says KSB attorney Karen Haase: "Schools, educational service units, and other education-related agencies are the most legally diverse entities in the country. We made a focused decision to provide legal advice and training across the broad spectrum of needs for schools and related entities, which allows us to use the commonality of legal issues to be efficient, timely, and practical in our representation.
"As KSB reviews developments in the law we create training seminars in order to keep educators informed of the ever-changing legal landscape; the 2018 seminar series is designed to bring your staff up to speed so they can perform their duties to the best of their ability and with fidelity to the law.
